Steve Jobs

A well written book that describes the many faces of Steve Jobs. Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years and interviews with family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a great story of a creative entrepreneur. Isaacson last interviewed Jobs just weeks before his death - Jobs indicated at that time that he knew he was going to die soon. As Isaacson makes clear, Jobs  was a businessman of astonishing flair and focus, a marketing genius, and had an intuitive sense of what the customer would want. Having been very aware of the rise and fall of Apple and Steve Jobs, this book is a very interesting read. The book also reveals Steve's history with his real sister, and his abandoned daughter. This is a great book to read because this is very insightful on the steve jobs story and how apple was founded, how Steve Jobs got the inspiration and motivation. Overall it is a well written book and in this book the personal stuff is the most informative.

Goal Setting Steps for New Year

As you know from my previous post "Goal Setting for New Year" that written goals are the real goals otherwise you have only wishes. Now you should make your goals visible, so that you can see them on a daily basis. If you cannot see your goals then how will you achieve them?  You should write your goals on your Laptop or on cards or in a place where you can see these goals on a daily basis. If you can see your goals on a daily basis then you can achieve them. You cannot shoot the arrow with closed eyes. Here I would like to share an ancient story with you.

Once in the Mahabharata, Guru Dronacharya took the test of his disciples.
He called all his disciples and showed them a target. The target was a 'fake fish-eye' that was hanging on the tree.  They all had to shoot the target. Guru Dronacharya called his dispels one by one and asked a question that what they were seeing, some said they were seeing fish and some said they were seeing fish and tree. But only Arjuna answered that he was seeing only eye of the fish and nothing else. And only Arjuna was able to hit the target. That is the power of focus and visible targets.

The second biggest advantage of visible goals is that you can adjust the goals according to changing environment. Make your goals attractive and beautiful so that you cannot be bored by seeing them daily. If you want to make beautiful goals try to write your goals in white fonts and with blue background.
Hence your goals must be --
(1) Written goals
(2) Visible on a daily basis (Attractive and beautiful)

If you follow the above step then you will certainly be able to achieve your targets.

Quote-- " I cannot assure you that you will be able to achieve your targets if you write them but I can assure you that you will not achieve your targets if you don`t write them." Lalit Bhojwani

In my next post, I will talk about further steps of goal setting process till then complete above both the steps. Happy Blogging

Difference Between Cost and Expense

What is the difference between cost and expense? Certainly it is a difficult and confusing question - Confusing because both the terms cost and expense are used interchangeably and difficult because no body has explained it in simple words. But now confusion is over because I will explain both these terms in simple words with a simple example ---
Please see the above ferrari and let`s suppose that LALIT Bhojwani had bought a Ferrari car on 16, January 2010 therefore ₹ 2,50,00000 was the cost for Lalit Bhojwani that was going to expire. And a year later on 16, January 2011, the Ferrari car was sold by Lalit BHojwani in ₹ 1,50,00000. It means the ferrari car depreciated ₹ 1,00,00000 and this ₹ 1,00,00000 was the expired cost for Lalit Bhojwani and that ₹ 1.00.00000 was expense for Lalit Bhojwani.
In property business if you purchase only land than that is the cost that will not expire because land does not depreciate. If your company purchases land for some uses than it is an asset for the company and will never become expense because land does not depreciate.
Always remember Cost of Goods Sold = Expenses. (Though both are used interchangeably)

In short and simple words -----
COST = The resources we sacrificed and is going to expire
Expense = The sacrificed resources that has been expired.

A cost can be either an asset, or an expense or both. In above example ₹ 2,50,00000 was both for Lalit Bhojwani an asset and an expense. But expense can only be expired cost not an asset. In above example in above ₹ 1,00,00000 was the expired cost for Lalit Bhojwani.
In your factory electricity bill is cost but goods of factory sold this cost of electricity becomes expense.

Great Definitions of Leadership

There are many diverse definitions of leadership.

“Leadership is inspiration and if you are not inspiring you are not a leader.” Lalit Bhojwani. Because one of the best definition I have found in history is related with inspiration. According to Napoleon Bonaparte- “A leader is a dealer in hope." A true leader always inspires, a true leader always motivates and a true leader always gives hopes. That`s why a leader is certainly a dealer in hope.
John Quincy Adams has also given the utmost importance to inspiration and he defined-
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams

Another one great definition is given by John Maxwell, “Leadership is influence- nothing more, nothing less.” Definitely if you are not inspiring you are not influential and without inspiration no leader can influence truly.
Warren Bennis has defined leadership in these words, “Leadership is a function of knowing yourself, having a vision that is well communicated, building trust among colleagues, and taking effective action to realize your own leadership potential.”
Definitely if you do not know yourself how can you inspire others and how can you build trust among colleagues?

When you are talking about leadership how can you forget Peter Drucker. Very inspiring definition was given by Peter Drucker.
"Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.
Peter Drucker
Last but not least "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." Steve Jobs. When leaders inspires others they create a great culture of innovations and inspiration motivates your employees to take risk and innovate. hostgator coupons

How are Geniuses made?

Geniuses are made from small events not from big events.
When Mahatma Gandhi was pushed out by train in South Africa, this event was a big event for Gandhi. This incident had taken place with many people before Gandhi and it was a little event for them.
When Newton saw an apple falling down from the tree, he took it seriously. Even before a million people saw the falling apple, they considered it a minor incident.

Can you imagine how many people saw the steam coming out before James Watt ? I'll tell you, millions of people, but they did not invent the steam engine because they did not take it seriously.

When Pasteur was looking through a microscope at the germs, his professor made a fun of him and told him it's useless. But Pasteur was continuously doing the research on those little germs. Finally he gave pasteurization theory.
Millions have such example, where the genius people, focusing on small events were able to make new breakthroughs. Genius is always made from small events not from big events.

What is Love?

Love is not madness. Between love and madness, lies xenophobia. Xenophobia is defined as "an unreasonable fear of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange". The Dictionary of Psychology defines it as "a fear of strangers". Xenophobia means fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign. Always youth and people who suffer from xenophobia make excuse of love.

Some shy guys instead of fighting with the fear of strangers they try to give lot of excuses - like love, responsibility and cultural issues. The issue is not avoiding responsibilities in fact most of times issue is Xenophobia.

On the other hand there are many benefits if you can fight with Xenophobia
